2009-02-17:

[1:22] <hannesw> zumbrunn: I like the black-white glossy logo!
[9:20] <hannesw> zumbrunn: i like what you did with the logo in your design
[9:21] <hannesw> partially, at least - i like the glossy thing, not the embossing in the top left side.
[9:24] <zumbrunn> just a second... I'll upload a version without that...
[9:26] <zumbrunn> voila
[9:27] <zumbrunn> http://dev.helma.org/static/files/3130/helma-proposal-blue-glossy-only.png
[9:29] <hannesw> which one do you prefer?
[9:30] <hannesw> i really like this one.
[9:31] <zumbrunn> yeah, I like it without the highlight, too
[9:31] <hannesw> should we go with this? what do you think about the blue style in general?
[9:32] <hannesw> (it's easier to track gobi this way)
[9:32] <zumbrunn> yes, that's fine :-)
[9:35] <hannesw> can you make a big version and two small ones for blue and white backgrounds? :-)
[9:35] * simono also likes shiny logos
[9:35] <hannesw> yes, it reflects the shininess of helma
[9:43] <zumbrunn> regarding securable modules support in ng...
[9:44] <zumbrunn> isn't the only thing needed to comply, that modules would get an exports object that refers to our current __export__ object?
[9:45] <hannesw> almost.
[9:45] <zumbrunn> what else?
[9:45] <hannesw> __export__ is just an array of strings
[9:45] <zumbrunn> ok
[9:45] <hannesw> the exports object is an object with the acual exported stuff
[9:46] <hannesw> I have to implement that in Java.
[9:46] <zumbrunn> oh, and I guess require needs to support syntax with slashes, instead of periods
[9:46] <hannesw> is that so? slashes instead of dots, or both?
[9:47] <zumbrunn> the requirement is slashes, I believe
[9:47] <zumbrunn> which doesn't mean we can't support dots as well, of course
[9:48] <zumbrunn> 1. A module identifier is a String of "terms" delimited by forward slashes.
[9:48] <zumbrunn> 2. A term must be a camelCase identifier, ".", or "..".
[9:48] <zumbrunn> 3. The extension of the file corresponding to a module identifier must be inferred by loaders.
[9:48] <zumbrunn> 4. Module identifiers may be "relative" or "absolute". A module identifier is "relative" if the first term is "." or "..".
[9:48] <zumbrunn> 5. Absolute identifiers are resolved off the conceptual name space root. A loader may check multiple roots in a consistent order, like a PATH.
[9:48] <zumbrunn> 6. Relative identifiers are resolved relative to the file in which "require" is called.
[9:50] <hannesw> i'd say with '.' and '..' it makes sense
[9:50] <hannesw> so if we implement it, let's implement it one way only
[9:51] <zumbrunn> this part of the spec hasn't been well discussed yet, though
[9:51] <zumbrunn> (maybe it doesn't need to be)
[9:52] <hannesw> well, it's quite clear.
[9:52] <hannesw> i really did prefer the dot notation, but compromise is part of getting to a standard.
[9:55] <hannesw> btw, chris: what is the preferred unit for defining font size in css? px? pt? em?
[9:55] <zumbrunn> I would argue for px
[9:56] <hannesw> isn't that dependent on the screen's dpi?
[9:56] <zumbrunn> yes
[9:56] <zumbrunn> which is why one could argue about what is best :-)
[9:57] <zumbrunn> px offers the best pixel exactness
[9:58] <hannesw> what would you use for basic body font size? 13px? 14px?
[9:58] <zumbrunn> and modern browsers still allow their users to easily scale up and down as a built-in feature
[9:58] <zumbrunn> that depends on the font
[9:58] <zumbrunn> most likely 13px
[9:59] <hannesw> ok, like it too. updating the default gobi stylesheet now
[10:08] <zumbrunn> currently, helma.org says: "Helma is an open source web application framework for fast and efficient scripting and serving of your websites and Internet applications."
[10:09] <zumbrunn> I would like to change that to: "Helma is a server-side Javascript environment with an open source web application framework for fast and efficient scripting and serving of your websites and Internet applications."
[10:20] <hannesw> What about shortening it to: "Helma is a server-side Javascript environment and web application framework for fast and efficient scripting and serving of your websites and Internet applications."
[10:32] <zumbrunn> ok
[11:55] <hannesw> hab das neue layout freigeschaltet, minus glossy logo ;-)
[11:55] <hannesw> http://dev.helma.org/
[11:57] <hannesw> das neue skinset heist "newskin", das alte "devskin"
[11:57] <hannesw> was das neue noch nicht hat sind sie google tracker js tags
[12:19] <hannesw> btw, i tested with firefox and konqueror (which should roughly cover safari)
[12:39] <hannesw> next step: retire the old helma.org :-)
