2009-02-15:

[17:17] <jirkap> hi guys, I am trying eclipse right now.. I may be wrong in general (I am not really sure whether the Servers view defines servers that already exist or new ones, all this eclipse stuff is pretty hard to understand for me), but is it possible to start Helma/Jetty from within eclipse and see the logs etc? I tried few plugins for Jetty but always failed..
[17:28] <zumbrunn> hi jirkap
[17:28] <zumbrunn> I don't know if that would be possible
[17:28] <zumbrunn> I've never done anything like that, anyway
[17:29] <zumbrunn> I just used eclipse as an editor with the cvs/svn version control integration
[17:29] <zumbrunn> never went beyond that, to leverage it as a full blown IDE
[17:30] <jirkap> hmm, ok thanks
[17:31] <zumbrunn> you don't need to restart helma when making changes usally, so there isn't really a need for those steps
[17:31] * zumbrunn changes made to your application are immediately available, without having to manually trigger a recompile
[17:31] <decke> and automatic deployment is easy too... i've run such a setup with SVN hooks that works wonderful
[17:33] <zumbrunn> and the rhino debugger lives as a separate entity as well, just running along side your editor setup
[17:38] <jirkap> zumbrunn: well, I am still learning... sometimes files I edit and try to save get locked, and nothing else helps than shut down the Helma.exe (or restart through manage app but that does not always help). But I guess it does not matter that much..
[17:38] <zumbrunn> the files get locked?
[17:39] <jirkap> yep, sometimes (Windows)
[17:39] <zumbrunn> that's files inside your application repositories?
[17:39] <jirkap> yes
[17:40] <zumbrunn> not files that are somehow written to by helma then
[17:40] <zumbrunn> Windows must be a weird OS ;-)
[17:41] <jirkap> no, the files I edit.. Windows sucks.. I have to use it though
[17:41] <decke> are you sure it's helma and not Eclipse?
[17:42] <decke> i don't have a clue why helma would require more then a read lock on this files...
[17:43] <decke> but i have seen eclipse doing much more weird things...
[17:43] * zumbrunn never experienced anything like this with eclipse either. though
[17:43] <decke> especially with Subclipse... that generates lots of "interesting" error messages
[17:47] <jirkap> hm, its definitely helma. I use Dreamweaver by default, but it is not very comfortable for js. I just downloaded eclipse yesterday to try it out, so that's not the issue.
[17:47] <decke> hm okay...
[17:49] <jirkap> and I don't think it is reproducable since sometimes the files get locked when sometimes they don't.
